On Saturday, June 23rd, 2018, KVIS held its Fourth Annual Katonah Inspired Summer Solstice Yoga Celebration on the lawn of the historic John Jay Homestead. Under a threatening sky, no rain drops fell on the 75 participants, or their new yoga mats which were donated by Gaiam, a company owned by Martha Stewart.
Yogis annually celebrate the radiance of the sun by practicing Sun Salutations, known as Surya Namaskar. This year, Katonah Inspired, KVIS’ wellness committee partnered with the Yoga Teachers’ Association of Hudson Valley, or YTA, to expand the event. In addition to the traditional yoga class, Gong Meditation offered by Golden Prana, and an organic living juice donated by O2 Living in Cross River, Bedford’s Town Supervisor, Chris Burdick kicked off summer with a toast.
This year’s event included a 18 raffle prizes totally over $2,000, Reiki healing during the relaxation meditation and posture checks with certified yoga instructors volunteering to help people with their yoga pose. Prizes included an annual membership to the YTA, a month’s family membership to Saw Mill Club, two Slow Medicine Consultations from SunRaven, Reiki treatments, massages, Alexander Technique lesson, Cranio-sacral treatments and multiple yoga memberships donated by studios throughout the Hudson Valley. Each participants also went home with a gift bag donated by Majestic Hudson, a new lifestyle boutique in Katonah.
KVIS’s Katonah Inspired will be arranging for Summer Outdoor Yoga offered by donation by certified yoga teachers at John Jay Homestead on Saturdays in July and August at 10 am. An Autumn Equinox Yoga Celebration is also planned for September 22, 2018. All outdoor classes are offered weather permitting. Next summer’s Solstice Celebration, is planned for June 22, 2019.
